Energy Users Encourage all States and Territories to Work Constructively Towards Bipartisan Energy Policy

The Energy Users’ Association of Australia (EUAA), the peak body representing large energy consumers, encourages all states and territory governments to work proactively and constructively at Friday’s COAG discussions to further the design and potential of the National Energy Guarantee (NEG).
“National energy policy is vital to ensure long term downward pressure on energy prices, in removing volatility in markets, and to creating the fundamental architecture that we need to build an energy system that is more flexible and able to deliver reliable, secure and affordable energy for all,” said EUAA Chief Executive Officer, Mr Andrew Richards.
“The NEG has the ability to be a policy that will drive investment and create the kind of energy market that will deliver a positive outcome for all energy users into the future; we cannot afford to waste this opportunity.”
“Conversely, the consequences of a lack of agreement on the NEG will see increased volatility in markets, higher energy prices, a lack of forward planning and investment, and likely result in manufacturing jobs heading offshore to more secure and affordable energy jurisdictions.”
“Energy consumers are optimistic that the NEG can work and in the interests of all Australians, I urge all states and territories to work constructively and cooperatively to find a solution to make the NEG work – bipartisan energy policy is in the interests of all Australians.”
EUAA member companies include significant retail, mining, manufacturing, materials and food processing industries that produce and manufacture essential items used by the Australian community every day.
