EUAA Welcomes COAG’s Small Steps; Calls for Giant Leaps

Welcoming the reforms set out in the Energy Council Commuique, Chief Executive Officer for the leading voice for energy users, Energy Users Association of Australia said, “The reforms agreed are a good start on a path to build a more stable and cost effective energy market but much more needs to be done.”

“What is required is not baby steps but giant leaps forward if we are to address supply, security and cost issues that are already hurting energy users.”

Report after report in recent weeks has highlighted the volatility in the Australia’s energy market culminating in price rises due to the unexpected closure of Hazelwood Coal Mine.

“Our current energy market trajectory weill leave us all worse off, put even more pressures on energy users and create an unworkable and unrelaibel energy system,” added Mr Richards.

“We call upon COAG to do more. This situation is critical and requires urgent attention. On behalf of Australia’s major energy and gas users we call on COAG Energy Ministers to accelerate efforts in key reform areas otherwise demand destruction will solve the energy issue.”

EUAA members are part of a critical network of companies spanning manufacturing, food processing, transport, energy, mining and raw material providers that benefit the Australian community. Price rises across this group have flow on effects to all users.
