Leading advocate for large commercial and industrial energy users, the Energy Users’ Association of Australia (EUAA), welcomes the appointment of Daniel Westerman as the new CEO of the Australian Energy Market Operator.

“We have many challenges in our energy markets that need urgent attention, not the least of which is the integration of a large volumes of renewable energy into our electricity networks,” said EUAA CEO, Mr Andrew Richards.

“Mr Westerman’s experience in managing the integration of renewable energy in the UK will no doubt be a great resource for this and many other challenges we face in the huge transition underway in our energy markets. Issues around the Integrated System Plan including the level of investment required for the transition, and who pays for this investment, are key issues for our members.”

“Mr Westerman will take the reigns at AEMO during a critical period and we look forward to working with him and his team on the many other critical issues facing energy users. In particular, we look forward to Mr Westerman continuing the AEMO journey to expand its consumer engagement activities across all of its work programs,” added Mr Richards.

The EUAA is the peak body representing Australian industrial and commercial energy users. Our membership covers a broad cross section of the Australian economy including significant retail, manufacturing and materials processing industries.

Combined our members employ over one million Australians, pay annual energy bills in the many billions of dollars and support the development of a lasting national energy and climate change plan that puts downward pressure on electricity and gas costs.
