The Energy Users Association of Australia (EUAA) welcomes the new Ministry for the 21st century announced by Prime Minister Turnbull. ‘The EUAA looks forward to working constructively with the new Ministry, especially in the exciting and complex area of energy supply and energy policy,’ said EUAA Chairman Brian Green. The EUAA congratulates the Hon Josh Frydenberg MP on his appointment as Minister for Resources, Energy and Northern Australia as he takes on this very challenging role in a period of significant change and opportunity. Congratulations also go to the Hon Christopher Pyne MP on his appointment to Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science and to the Hon Greg Hunt MP on his expanded role as Minister for the Environment. ‘The EUAA acknowledges the sterling work completed by the outgoing Minister, the Hon Ian Macfarlane MP, who worked tirelessly and constructively with all sectors of the energy industry over a long period of significant change and reform,’ said Mr Green. EUAA CEO Phil Barresi noted that under the stewardship of Ian Macfarlane the process of engagement with consumers and users at COAG level has been welcomed and the EUAA looks forward to this process being continued under the auspices of the new Minister. The energy sector is experiencing an unprecedented period of change with falling electricity demand, growing natural gas demand and reform of energy infrastructure in both electricity and gas delivery systems. Abundant competitively priced energy is the foundation upon which our industrial and manufacturing sectors are based. In the changing climate of reform and energy exports it is imperative that Australia retains its competitive advantage in energy supply whilst simultaneously facilitating LNG exports. Australia has abundant energy resources and is poised to become a world leader in energy exports: the challenge is to achieve this whilst creating a world-leading opportunity for the domestic market too.
