The Energy Users’ Association of Australia (EUAA) welcomes the recently released energy policy blueprint by the South Australian Liberal Party.
“The SA Liberals energy policy brings together a suite of initiatives that together will help create better outcomes for energy consumers, improve reliability and hopefully make energy more affordable, “said EUAA Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Richards.
“We particularly support the removal of state-based renewable energy targets in favour of a single national approach. A focus on a nationally coordinated, market-based energy policy will help de-risk energy related investments, delivering better value for energy users and critically, cheaper energy prices as well.”
Many of the initiatives announced recently seek to work within the policy and regulatory framework set out by the Finkel review. It includes reverse auctions for emergency capacity, enhancing FCAS markets to deliver more services and new requirements on new renewable generators.
“Other Important elements of this policy include a $50 million grid scale storage fund and a new demand response initiative” added Mr Richards. “This will help improve reliability and increased opportunities to manage demand for consumers and are welcomed by the EUAA.”
“Energy users need reliable, secure and affordable energy. We welcome a policy that aims to address these key concerns and ensure energy consumers are at the core of energy policy,” added Mr Richards.
The EUAA is part of the chorus of organisations calling for national energy policy, such as a CET.
Members of the EUAA include many large businesses responsible for producing essential items that include food, packaging, raw materials and medical supplies that are used in the Australian community every day.
The policy comes just ahead of the EUAA SA Energy Forum on Oct 24 at the Pullman Adelaide. Both the Energy Minister and Opposition energy spokesman will be attending this event ahead of the SA Election in 2018. Full details about the Energy Forum can be found at euaa.com.au
